‘Indian rupee should be used at par with US dollar’, says Sri Lankan President


Ranil Wickremesinghe On Indian Rupee: Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe is coming to India for a two-day official visit. Earlier, he has given a big statement about India. He said on Saturday (July 15) that Sri Lanka wants the Indian rupee to be used at par with the US dollar. This statement of the President of Sri Lanka, who is facing cash crisis, came while addressing the Indian CEO Forum in Colombo.

President Wickremesinghe said that ‘Just as West Asia, including Japan, Korea and China, achieved unprecedented economic growth 75 years ago, it is now India’s turn in the Indian Ocean region. President Wickremesinghe’s statement was a reply to Forum President TS Prakash, who in his address had called for increased use of the Indian rupee in the Sri Lankan economy.

Praised PM Modi

During his address, Sri Lankan President Wickremesinghe said that if the Indian rupee becomes a common currency, then we have no objection to it. During this, he praised India as well as the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the world is developing, along with this India is passing through a phase of rapid development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Benefits of proximity to India

The Daily Mirror newspaper said in its report that during his address, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe also said that Sri Lanka benefits from proximity to India as well as rich history, cultural heritage and 2,500-year-old trade relations.

During this, referring to the current situation of his country, the President said, “We are coming out of the economic crisis. Despite the slowdown, the economy is recovering. Let us inform that Ranil Wickremesinghe will reach New Delhi on 21 July. here the prime minister Narendra Modi Will meet.
