Yonhap news agency quoted officials as saying that 19 vehicles were submerged in an underground roadway in Osong, affecting dozens of people. However, the officials are still trying to find out the exact figures. According to the report, so far the bodies of five people trapped in the tunnel have been removed. Due to the breaking of the dam due to heavy rains, water has been flooded in many low-lying areas, in which case the number of dead may increase.

According to reports, rescue workers recovered the bodies of five people from a bus submerged in a flooded underpass in Cheongju during an underwater search operation on Sunday morning. The Yonhap news agency cited the Central Disaster and Security Countermeasures Headquarters as saying that most of the deaths occurred in North Gyeongsang, where 16 people died due to landslides and collapsing buildings. After this, five people have died in South Chungcheong province. As per reports, the casualties are expected to rise as government agencies are assessing the damage caused across the country.

PM is holding meetings in haste

Significantly, in a report of the ministry on Saturday morning, it was said that 7 people have died in landslides caused by torrential rains. Ministry officials said that 10 people are missing since Tuesday due to torrential rains. In view of the worsening situation, the Prime Minister of South Korea is holding urgent meetings with the government officials. Along with this, instructions are being given to speed up the relief and rescue work. According to the report, due to the rains for the last four days, there are many difficulties in the rescue operation.
