Tomato has been missing from the common people’s plate for the last few weeks. Its prices are skyrocketing across the country. In some parts of the country, tomatoes have reached the level of Rs 250 per kg. However, after the intervention of the government, now the prices of tomatoes have started softening. Taking a lesson from the fire in the price of tomato, the government has already started preparing for onion. According to this, the central government has already started preparing a buffer stock of onions. For this, the government is procuring onions on a large scale, so that there is no shortage of onions after the season is over, and in that case too, the condition of tomatoes is not seen. Price

Looking at the condition of tomato, it had crossed Rs 100 per kg in almost every part of the country. Right now it has reached up to Rs 250 per kg in many places. To give relief to the people and to control the retail prices of tomato, the government has started selling it at a subsidized rate. It is being made available at a discounted rate in Delhi-NCR. Due to this the prices have started softening. According to reports, the wholesale price of tomatoes has now come down to Rs 80 a kg.

20 per cent higher procurement

According to PTI news, the government has I have procured 3 lakh tonnes of onion for buffer stock, which is 20% more than last year. Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Singh was quoted as saying that the government is working with the Bhabha Atomic Research Center to keep onions safe for longer.

Seasons come in handy

The government had kept 2.51 lakh tonnes of onions for buffer stock in the financial year 2022-23. After the end of the season, when the supply starts decreasing in the market and the prices start rising, then the government starts supplying onions from the buffer stock. The government says that it has completed preparations to control onion prices during the festive season.

Here is the price of onions now

According to government data, On July 15, the average retail price of onion at all India level was Rs 26.79 per kg. Its maximum price was Rs 65 and the minimum was Rs 10 per kg.
