The student and his parents were surprised by this talk of the teacher.
Eddie McCarthy is a math teacher at Whitmer High School in Toledo, Ohio. He told that Roman was in his class this year and he is a very nice child and when he came to know about his condition, he decided to help the student.
Gave good news to the student’s family
Eddie McCarthy further stated that he had learned about the poor condition of his student, Roman McCormick, two months earlier. After which he secretly went to the hospital for a checkup whether he can donate kidney to the student or not.
Eddie McCarthy underwent several tests and after several months of waiting, the doctors told him that he had a donor match. He was finally given a date for surgery in June, after which he shared the good news with McCormick’s family.
Student affected by BOR syndrome
According to the National Institutes of Health, McCormick, a 15-year-old high school student, has branchiotoral or BOR syndrome, a rare, hereditary condition. It affects tissue development and can cause ear and kidney malformations.
Student told his position
McCormick told Good Morning America about his condition, saying, “I haven’t been able to eat and be physically active like a normal kid because my kidneys are slowing my physical activity down”. .
Doctors said McCormick’s symptoms worsened and he developed stage 4 kidney disease. The doctors warned that he would have to go on dialysis until a kidney donor was found. His family had been searching for a donor for almost two years. But now Roman’s family is very happy after getting a donor.
Roman’s mother, Jamie Redd, told USA TODAY, “I was overjoyed to know that the donor was someone who knew my son,” adding that her son was overjoyed and hoped that his son would The story will inspire other families who may be going through a difficult time with their children.”
While Roman’s father said, “It means a lot to me that my son has found a donor”. He thanked the teacher and said, “He is a wonderful person.”
