Chhattisgarh Coal Scam: The decision has been reserved in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court regarding the coal block allocation scam in Chhattisgarh. In the coal scam case, the court has reserved the verdict on the punishment of the culprits. After which the verdict on this matter will be given on 26 July. The court will sentence former Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Darda in this case. Earlier, the Rouse Avenue Court had convicted former Congress Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Darda and others in the case.
Demand for maximum punishment from CBI
In this coal scam case, a demand has been made by the CBI to give maximum punishment to the culprits. The CBI said in the court that the convicts cannot seek lesser punishment citing health. Because there is enough evidence against all the culprits. At the same time, the lawyer appearing on behalf of the culprits has demanded minimum punishment. The counsel for the convicts said that it took 9 years to complete the trial in the case, the harassment by the accused for 9 years is correct, the officers are residents of Delhi but others used to come from other states.

The counsel for the convicts said that it is the responsibility of the prosecution to keep the witnesses safe, if they cannot keep them safe then it is their fault. The counsel for the convicts said that all the coal blocks were connected to Naxal-affected areas; if they had been established, the situation in those areas would have been different today. The court has convicted him under sections 120B, 420 and sections related to corruption of the IPC.
The Rouse Avenue Court has convicted former Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Darda, former coal secretary HC Gupta, two senior officials KS Krofa and KC Samaria and the company M/s JLD Yavatmal Energy Pvt Ltd, its director Manoj Kumar Jaiswal in the coal scam case. After which now the punishment will be announced.
