Asian Games 2023: Veteran wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat have got a big relief in the Asian Games. Now both the players will not have to participate in the trials for the Asian Games. Both have been exempted from trial.

The Adhoc Committee of WFI said that it will conduct selection trials in all the categories but the winners of men’s freestyle 65kg and women’s 53kg categories will be kept as standby.

The adhoc committee did not name Bajrang and Vinesh in the circular, but panel member Ashok Garg confirmed to news agency PTI that both the wrestlers have been exempted from trial.

The Adhoc Committee of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has decided to conduct the trials on July 22 and 23 at the KD Jadhav Indoor Stadium. Vinesh and Bajrang will not participate in this. The players who win the trials in their respective weight categories will be on standby.

Vinesh Phogat is the only Indian woman wrestler to win gold medals at both the Asian Games and the Commonwealth Games and the only Indian wrestler to be nominated for the Laureus World Sports Award in 2019.

In Birmingham 2022, he defeated Chamodya Keshani Maduravalage Don of Sri Lanka. This time too a lot is being expected from him.
