Monsoon continues to wreak havoc in Pakistan, 11 killed in bridge wall collapse in Islamabad


Pakistan Monsoon: Eleven people have died after a wall of an under-construction bridge near Golra Mor collapsed due to torrential monsoon rains in Pakistan’s Islamabad on Wednesday (July 19). Apart from Islamabad, it is raining heavily in Rawalpindi as well, due to which 2 people died in Rawalpindi also.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the monsoon coming from the Arabian Sea has intensified today. Rawalpindi has received maximum rainfall of about 200 mm. According to Geo News, the wall of the bridge under construction in Islamabad was 100 feet wide and 11 feet high. On the side of the same wall, the laborers had put up tents to stay. Rescue 1122 rescuers reached the spot soon after the wall collapsed.

Four people were pulled out alive from the debris
Islamabad police said that the rescue workers took out the bodies from the debris of the wall with the help of machines. More people are likely to be trapped in the debris. His search continues. So far four people have been pulled out alive from the debris. Meanwhile, an 11-year-old girl died after a wall collapsed in Mohammadi Town under the jurisdiction of Islamabad’s Khana police station.

In a separate rain-related incident, two buses on the Islamabad-Peshawar motorway collided with each other after losing control. Rescue 1122 said that their teams are working to help the injured. The seriously injured have been sent to hospitals in Wah Cantt and Takshashila.

Where did it rain in Pakistan
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, Shamsabad received up to 188 mm of rain. Bokra received 129 mm of rain, Golra 102 mm, H-8 area 93 mm, Chaklala 72 mm and Saidpur 37 mm. Due to incessant rains, the water level in Nala Lai near Katarian rose to 14 feet and near Gavalmandi to 11 feet.

Army personnel were called for the emergency services of rain. The officials sounded the alarm siren to alert the nearby residents and advised them to be vigilant.
