Indian Cricket Team, Asia Cup 2023: After a long wait, the schedule of Asia Cup 2023 has been released. Asian Cricket Council Chief Jai Shah announced the schedule of the tournament last Wednesday (July 19). The tournament will start from 30 August. The Indian team will play its first match against arch-rivals Pakistan on 2 September. If India reaches the final, then the team will have to play 6 ODIs in a span of 15 days, which will not be easy.
The Asia Cup is to be played in the 50-over format, in which 6 teams including India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka will participate. The Indian team is present in Group-A along with Pakistan and Nepal. Before the World Cup 2023, the Asia Cup may become difficult for the Indian team as the team may have to play 6 ODIs in a span of 15 days before the mega tournament. More matches in less days can increase the chances of players getting injured.
Before the World Cup, even a player’s injury can be a huge burden for Team India, due to which the risk of losing the World Cup will increase. The Indian team will play two matches against Pakistan and Nepal in the group stage. After qualifying in the group stage, India can remain at any number, but it will be called A-2 only. If Team India qualifies for the Super-4 after the group stage, then the team will have to play a total of 3 matches in the Super-4.
After this, if in the Super-4, Team India somehow manages to get the final ticket, then on September 15, the Indian team will play the final match of the tournament. In this way, Team India can play 6 ODIs including the final in the tournament.
These players are already struggling with injury
At present, many players of the Indian team are struggling with injuries. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, wicketkeeper batsman KL Rahul and middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer are present in this. Although all the three players have started net practice. According to media reports, Bumrah and Iyer may return in the T20 series against Ireland before the Asia Cup. In such a situation, both the players can also become a part of the Asia Cup.
