‘Fake news of gangrape in Manipur incited mob’, says Puli on video of her walking naked


Manipur Violence: Controversy is heating up in Manipur after a shameful video of two women being paraded naked went viral. The video is said to be from Manipur’s Kangpokpi district where women were paraded naked by a mob on May 4. In the video going viral on social media, it is clearly visible that the mob takes two women away from the farm. In the FIR lodged in the case, an allegation of gangrape with a woman has also been made. Actually this whole incident was carried out after a fake news went viral on social media.

According to the police, the news of rape in Delhi was wrongly spread on social media by talking about ‘rape incident in Manipur’. According to police sources, it was only after the photo of the Delhi gangrape went viral that the mob in Manipur brutalized the women. A photo of a woman wrapped in a plastic sheet was going viral on social media, claiming that she was a Manipur woman who had been raped. However, later during the investigation it was found that this photo is not from Manipur but from Delhi.

It may be known that the video of this shameful incident surfaced on social media on Wednesday (July 19) when two women are being paraded naked by a group of men in Manipur. It is visible in the video that men are constantly molesting women. Not only this, women are begging and crying for help. The women are pleading with him to release him.

Based on the complaint, the police had registered a zero FIR at the Saikul police station on 18 May. An officer of Saikul police station said that other charges including rape and murder have been leveled against the accused. According to the complaint lodged with the police, the incident took place on the afternoon of May 4.
