Manipur Violence Update: There is widespread anger in the country over the incident of women being paraded naked in Manipur. This incident is being strongly condemned everywhere. The demand for capital punishment has also been raised for the criminals involved in this heinous crime. Opposition parties are also constantly attacking the central government regarding this matter and are demanding the resignation of Manipur CM N Biren Singh.
1. Another accused involved in the incident was arrested on Saturday (July 22) evening. Manipur Police tweeted that one more accused has been arrested. A total of six people, including five main accused and a juvenile, have been arrested so far. In many states of the country, there has been a strong protest against this incident on Saturday.
2. After the video of women being paraded naked in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district went viral, Manipur Police and Central forces have beefed up security in the state to prevent any untoward incident. Apart from this, aerial surveillance has also been intensified. Police said that the security personnel are making every possible effort to arrest the remaining accused in the incident by raiding several suspected hideouts.
3. Manipur police said that a total of 126 nakas and check posts have been set up in different areas of both the hill and valley districts and 413 people have been detained by the police in connection with the violence. The movement of essential goods on the National Highway has also been ensured.
4. There is an uproar in Parliament regarding this incident as well. Opposition MPs have planned a protest near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Parliament complex on Monday to press for the Prime Minister’s statement on the issue in both the Houses. According to sources, after the meeting on Monday (July 24) at 10 am, the leaders will protest near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi before entering both the Houses.
5. Union Earth Sciences Minister Kiren Rijiju said on Saturday that the central government will place facts in Parliament on the Manipur incident. He refused to speak about the viral video. He said that whatever matter will be discussed in the Parliament, we will keep our point, but right now I cannot say anything on this matter.
6. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren President Draupadi Murmu expressed grief over the atrocities against women in Manipur and urged him to take steps to ensure peace in the northeastern state. He wrote that the country cannot allow the barbaric treatment of tribals in Manipur.
7. Meanwhile, social activist Anna Hazare demanded hanging of the criminals involved in the incident. He said that this kind of act is out of tolerance. Such an act with a woman is unacceptable. These criminals should be given death sentence, should be hanged on the gallows. He also misbehaved with the ex-soldier’s wife, this is a very serious matter. This incident is a big blot on humanity.
8. The attack on the center by the opposition leaders also continued regarding this matter. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that if the Prime Minister Narendra Modi If he could not go to Manipur, he should have called a meeting and reviewed the situation in Manipur. For the first time I have seen that a Prime Minister is visiting Karnataka, Rajasthan and other places for elections but not Manipur. They have a government in Manipur, imagine what they would have said if the Congress was in power there.
9. After the video incident, another case of alleged gang rape and murder of two tribal women has come to light in the state. The victim’s mother alleged that on May 4, 100 to 200 unidentified men allegedly belonging to the majority community raped her daughter and her friend, besides torturing and brutally killing them both. Both the girls worked at a car cleaning shop and lived in a rented house at Konung Mamang in Imphal East.
10. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that we respect all women, their dignity and whoever is harming the dignity of women in our country will never be spared. They will be punished severely. More than 160 people have died since ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on May 3.
