Indian-American: The recent legislative steps taken against caste-based discrimination in America are an attempt to harass and demoralize the people of the Indian-American community in the country. The Indian-Americans involved in Castcon, the first of its kind conference on caste, have made this allegation.
A large number of Indian-Americans from other parts including Silicon Valley participated in the Castcon held last Sunday (July 16) in Fremont city of California. He discussed the legislative steps taken in relation to caste in other US states including California.
Efforts to implement caste system curbed
Indian-American participants alleged that the immigrant population was being targeted at the state level, using the law as an aggressive means of establishing identity. On the other hand, the organizers said that the basic purpose of organizing Castcon-2023 is to curb the efforts to implement the caste system in the American society.
It is a subversive social structure, which started during the British colonial era in India. A press release issued by the organizers said that the move is not only considered inappropriate and unnecessary under US law, but also has the potential to undermine community cohesion and adversely affect future generations.
humiliating treatment of Hindus
Satish K Sharma, a UK-based Hindu leader, while addressing Castcon said, “I am saddened to see how Hindus in today’s California are treated with disrespect, simply because they are Hindus. Such behavior is considered completely unfair and oppressive.”
Hindu leader of California Rishi Kumar said that I oppose the caste bill ‘SB 403’ of Sacramento. Rishi Kumar, a Democrat from California, is a candidate for a congressional seat from Silicon Valley. Prior to this, he has also served as a former member of the Executive Board of the California Democratic Party.
