Devendra Fadnavis Birthday Special: Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and present Deputy Chief Minister of the state Devendra Fadnavis has a birthday on 22 July. He has turned 53 on his birthday. From being a member of BJP’s student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad to becoming the youngest mayor of Nagpur, then being appointed BJP state president and then becoming the chief minister and deputy chief minister of the state, Devendra Fadnavis’s political achievements are many.
Devendra Fadnavis was born in a Marathi Hindu family living in Nagpur, Maharashtra. His father’s name is Gangadhar Fadnavis and mother’s name is Sarita Fadnavis. Father Gangadhar Fadnavis served as a member of Maharashtra Legislative Council from Nagpur and mother was former director of Vidarbha Housing Credit Society.
Left Indira Convent School when father went to jail
Fadnavis did his early education from Indira Convent, a school named after the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. During the Emergency, Fadnavis’s father was also jailed for being a member of the Jana Sangh and participating in protests against the government. On this, Fadnavis refused to study in Indira Convent.
He did not want to go to the school named after the prime minister whom he held responsible for his father’s imprisonment. After this he studied at Saraswati Vidyalaya in Nagpur. For higher secondary education, he had enrolled in Dharampeth Junior College.
Earned degrees in law and business management
Fadnavis obtained his graduation degree in law from the Government Law College affiliated to Nagpur University. He did post graduation in Business Management. In addition, he holds a Diploma in Project Management Methods and Techniques from DSE-German Foundation for International Development, Berlin, Germany.
Political career of Fadnavis
Fadnavis started his political career in the mid-nineties. As a student, he was an active member of the ABVP affiliated to the BJP. He became a corporator in 1992 at the age of 22. Five years later, in 1997, at the age of 27, he became the youngest mayor of Nagpur Municipal Corporation and with this he became the second youngest mayor in the history of India.
Fadnavis has been representing Nagpur in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly since 1999. He served as the 18th Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 31 October 2014 to 12 November 2019. After taking oath at the age of 44, he became the second youngest Chief Minister in the history of Maharashtra after Sharad Pawar.
Fadnavis was the Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 2019 to 2022. He was also the President of Maharashtra State Unit of BJP from 2013 to 2015. He served a second term of 5 days as Chief Minister during 2019, before resigning on 28 November 2019 due to the political crisis in Maharashtra.
Devendra Fadnavis, a member of the BJP and the RSS, has represented the Nagpur South West constituency in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly since 2009. Earlier from 1999 to 2009 he represented Nagpur West. He was the mayor of Nagpur from 1997 to 2001.
There was a ruckus on this statement of Fadnavis
In June this year, a statement by Fadnavis was in the news after clashes broke out in Kolhapur over a social media post glorifying Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. He had said that from where suddenly so many children of Aurangzeb were born. After this he tried to make it clear that he does not consider Muslims as descendants of Aurangzeb and nationalist Muslims do not see Aurangzeb as their hero.
