Ambikapur News: Ambikapur city of Chhattisgarh is facing severe water crisis for a long time. Municipal Corporation Ambikapur does not have any alternative arrangement for relief from water crisis. If there is no good rain within three-four days, then people may have to yearn for water drop by drop even in the rainy season. The Municipal Corporation does not have any other option to solve the water crisis. In such a situation, there can be an outcry in the city anytime due to the drinking water crisis.
For decades, water is supplied to Ambikapur city from Banki dam through pillow filter plant. After the completion of Amrit mission, water is being supplied from Ghunghutta dam in the outer areas, while water is supplied from Banki reservoir through tanks built earlier. Due to many technical problems arising simultaneously, this time, before the start of the summer season, much less water is being supplied than required. The biggest reason behind the shortage of water is being told that the Banki dam is on the verge of drying up. Last year, due to less rainfall, only 35 percent of the capacity of the Banki reservoir could be filled with water. Due to less water filling in the dam, half the water is being supplied since the month of April.
This caused the problem to be created
Even in the event of normal rainfall, hardly 50-60 per cent water fills in Banki Dam. The dam had reached the verge of drying up in the month of May itself, but somehow the time of two and a half months passed. Due to lack of rain for a long time, the dam has again reached the verge of drying up. On Friday (July 21), less than a quarter of the 16 tanks in half the city were filled with water, due to which water did not reach most of the houses. After waiting for a long time, when people started running around, they came to know that less water has been supplied from the filter plant. Because of which such a problem has arisen.
If there is no good rain, there can be an outcry
There are many other reasons behind the short supply of water. Which is not likely to be resolved in the near future. When sufficient water is available in the dam, workable water is available. Sometimes when a situation of water crisis arises, people vent their anger and become calm. Presently the water of Banki Dam has reached the surface. In such a situation, if there is no good rain soon, there can be an outcry for drinking water in a large area of Ambikapur city.
water leaking continuously
Due to less supply of water in half of Ambikapur city, lakhs of liters of water is wasted. The gate of anicut constructed by PHE in the year 2004-05 near Takia Filter Plant is in bad condition for the last 5-6 years. Because of which lakhs of liters of water is being wasted everyday from the gate. Due to filling of silt in Anicut, water is being filled to half of its capacity. The gravity pipeline built years ago to transport water from Banki dam to the filter plant has also sunk at many places. Due to which there is continuous leakage of water. When the problem increases, the municipal corporation runs the repair work. Even after repairing the pipeline, there is no relief from the problem of leakage. The gate of Banki dam is also defunct for a long time, due to which water is leaking. People’s representatives of the Municipal Corporation say that they have informed many times about this big problem from collector to government level officials and people’s representatives, but no initiative has been taken to solve it.
problem in this ward
Water is supplied through 16 different tanks in Mayapur, Kedarpur, Manipur, Namanakala, Nawagarh, Mahamaya Para, Gandhinagar, Patpariya, Kena Dam, Ghutrapara etc. in Ambikapur city. In these areas, 170 lakh liters of water is supplied on normal days, but for a long time only 7 lakh 800 liters of water is being supplied. Due to Banki Dam reaching the verge of drying up, the water supply has reduced further.
Municipal corporation will supply water from tomorrow morning only
Due to scanty rains and lack of water in the Banki dam as per capacity, the corporation administration has decided to supply water to Ambikapur city only in the morning in one shift from tomorrow, 23rd July. Giving information in this regard, Commissioner Pratishtha Mamgai said that due to very less water in Banki reservoir, it is not possible to provide water in both the shifts in the city. Due to which water will be supplied in one shift only till the remaining reservoir is filled with sufficient water.
Citizens are looking worried
Significantly, due to the shortage of water in the Banki reservoir even during the summer season, water supply was getting affected and in most of the areas water was being supplied only for 15 to 20 minutes, due to which people were already worried about water. in the rainy season Monsoon Despite the beginning of the month of 2015, due to less rainfall, till now very little water has been filled in the Banki reservoir. Looking at the drought condition of Banki reservoir, not only the municipal officials and public representatives, but also the citizens are now worried.
