When will CM Eknath Shinde’s government ‘attack’ on malnutrition, most malnourished children are in Thane


Maharashtra News: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde (Eknath Shinde) has 1852 malnourished children in Thane district. This was found out from the Maharashtra government’s own survey. The State Women and Child Development Department and Health Department have conducted this survey in urban and rural areas of Thane. It has been revealed that 181 children are severely malnourished and 1671 children are moderately malnourished, while 23034 children have been found to be moderately underweight and very underweight.

Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena and other parties raised questions in the Legislative Council regarding the steps the state government is taking regarding malnutrition and child mortality. Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare gave a written reply to this in the Legislative Council. The minister revealed the nutritional status of mothers and children under urban and rural projects in Thane district. There are 16 projects under the Integrated Child Development Services Scheme in Thane district. Of these, there are eight projects each in urban and rural areas.

What did Aditi Tatkare tell
According to this, according to the monthly progress report of March 2023, 266049 children were weighed in the district. Of these, 243009 were found to be of normal weight, 20361 of medium and low weight, while 2679 were found to be very underweight. That is, the number of underweight children has reached 23034. In response, Minister Aditi Tatkare said that the Integrated Child Development Services Scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme, in which 50 per cent is shared by the Center and 50 per cent by the state government.

He told that to deal with malnutrition, adequate help is being given to the mother and the child for nutrition by the Central and State Government. Village child development centers have been started in rural areas to bring malnourished children into the general category. On the same lines, urban child development centers are also being started in urban areas.
