Delhi Metro: On Monday (July 24), the Excise Department has said to change the rules for carrying two bottles of liquor in the Delhi Metro. The Excise Department expressed concern to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and said that instead of two bottles, only one bottle should be allowed to be carried.
Officials said that according to the Delhi Excise Act, a person aged 25 years or more should be allowed to carry only 1 liter of liquor from other states to Delhi and the bottle should also be sealed.
Excise department wants to change the rule
A senior official told that the quantity of liquor should not be measured in bottles but in litres. He told that a liquor bottle is of 750 ml, be it whiskey, vodka or rum. At the same time, two bottles together become 1.5 liters, which is not allowed. In fact, Delhi Metro announced on June 30 that now two bottles of liquor per person will be allowed in the metro, although the condition was kept that the bottles should be sealed. After this order, the metro requested the passengers to maintain proper behavior during the journey and if someone is found drunk then action will be taken according to the law.
In the DMRC’s decision, it was said that two bottles would be allowed on all routes of the Delhi Metro. However, CRPF has the right to take the passenger out of the metro station if there is a ruckus or quarrel after drinking alcohol in the metro. Along with this, a fine of Rs 200 can also be imposed on the passenger who breaks the rules by CRPF or Metro employee. Along with this, legal action can also be taken if the situation worsens.
